About Fort Morrow Fire District
For over 30 years the Fort Morrow Fire District has operated a fire department. The department initially operated with a staff of trained volunteers, but it has grown as the townships we serve have grown. Today the fire department delivers fire, emergency medical and emergency rescue services with a staff of 27 volunteer Firefighters 12 of which are part-time personnel out of one fire station at 306 N. Marion St.
All firefighters are certified by the State of Ohio and are expected to keep current on the latest firefighting techniques through training. To aid in firefighting, the department operates and maintains:
- 1 Advanced Life Support Ambulance
- 1 Reserve Ambulance
- 1 Engine
- 1 Engine / Tanker Combination
- 1 Rescue / Engine
- 1 Utility Truck
- 1 Grass Truck
- 1 Special Response Trailer
History of the Fort Morrow Fire District
- 1890 - Waldo Village starts the Waldo Fire Department
- The first Fire Chief was J.L. Porterfield
- Built the first fire station on E. Main St for $422.90
- Purchased a Sand Pumper that held 150 gallons of water
- 1929 - Purchased Studebaker Fire Truck with 150 gallon tank
- Charged village and township residents $25.00 to have fire coverage
- 1948 - Purchased new Ford front mount pumper with 750 gallon tank
- Started to cover Richland Twp and Marlboro Twp in Delaware County
- 1959 - First Department in Marion County to provide squad service
- First squad was 1948 Cadaliac
- 1965 - Built new 6 bay fire station across from the old station
- 1966 - Purchased new panel truck and made into a squad
- 1972 - New International Pumper with 1000 Gallon Tank
- 1978 - New Tanker GMC with 1250 Tank
- Consolidated into Fort Morrow Fire District
- 1981 - Purchased New Horton Squad
- 1990 - Purchased used Recuse truck
- 1994 - Purchased New Pierce Engine, In Service as Rescue 631
- 2002 - Purchased New Horton Medic
- 2003 - Purchased 2000 Ford F-250 Grass Truck
- Purchased 2001 GMC Utility Truck
- 2004 - Purchased New KME Enginer/Tanker with 2000 Gallon Tank
- 2007 - Started Part Time Staffing with 2 members on station Monday - Friday 8 A.M. to 4 P.M.
- 2009 - Construction Started on New Fire House
- 2010 - Construction completed of New Fire House
- 2012 - Purchased New KME Engine with Rescue Body
- 2013 - Increased Part Time Staff to include Saturday 8 A.M. to 4 P.M.
- 2015 - Purchased New Braun Medic
